Summer learning tracks

Let's find something to fit your student's needs.

READING

Raising bookworms, one story at a time.

Literature changes the way we think about the world, introducing us to new people, places, and ideas. Reading is important—now more than ever.

The reading track will immerse your student in stories. Readers get to know new characters, ponder challenging questions (big and small), and jumpstart the lifelong process of relating critical themes to their own experience.

The curriculum includes:

One-on-one weekly classes over Zoom
In-depth discussions eliciting comprehension and analysis
Short-answer written responses, solidifying those ah-ha moments
Final presentation after completing each book, showcasing student progress

CREATIVE WRITING

Your student has a voice. Let’s hear it.

Whether in kindergarten or high school, kids need a forum through which to process their thoughts and feelings, freely and supportively. Creative writing provides that space.

The creative writing track empowers learners through self-expression. Lessons are guided, without being limiting—students explore poetry, narrative, nonfiction, or any other styles that inspire them. The idea is to erase the box, not create one.

The curriculum includes:

Weekly assignments, reviewed during each class
Creative journal entries to connect self-expression with self-reflection
Rapid freewrites to strategically minimize writer’s block
Final portfolio to showcase student work

Frequently Asked Questions

How does online tutoring work?

Classes take place over Zoom, so students need access to a computer with high-speed Internet. Depending on the topic of a lesson, we’ll use different online tools—like Google Docs or a virtual whiteboard—so we can effectively mimic an interactive classroom experience.

When can my student be tutored?

My regular hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm PST.

How does scheduling work?

Before signing up for classes, please schedule a consultation call. After we've talked, we'll pick a weekly time slot.

Most students have class at the same time each week, but certain exceptions can be made, if necessary. You can also sign up for classes on an as-needed basis.

What about the cancellation policy?

Please let me know ASAP (by phone or email) about any cancellation or rescheduling needs. In order to receive a full refund, classes should be cancelled at least 24 hours prior to their scheduled time. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours of notice must be paid in full.

How do I get started?

Sign up online for a consultation call. We’ll talk about your student and the unique learning goals that we'll address in our tutoring sessions. Once we’ve come up with a plan, we'll schedule a weekly time slot and get started—easy as that.

How often should my child be tutored?

The answer to this question can vary quite a bit, depending on each student’s unique learning needs and goals. For reading programs, I typically suggest we meet weekly for two-hour sessions. Writing programs are usually held twice weekly for one-hour or 90-minute sessions. We’ll come up with a customized plan during our consultation call

Which subjects are offered?

I specialize in English tutoring (reading, writing, listening, speaking), and I also have experience teaching and tutoring a variety of other K-12 subjects. I’m fluent in Spanish and have spent years tutoring history, math, films, and more. If you have questions about whether I can tutor your child in a specific subject, schedule a call for a free consultation!

How does payment work?

PayPal is my preferred payment method, but I accept Venmo, as well. Full payment is due at the time of booking. If you have any questions about alternative payment options, please reach out.
